Antique 1828 Sterling Silver Coffee Tea Set Sublime Best Geroge IV Rebecca Emes
Antique, exceptional, fabulous and incredibly chiseled sterling silver tea or coffee set made by Rebeca Emes & Edward Barnard in London during 1828 (each piece is hallmarked). Richly and lavishly ornamented, this set has a great story: this set originally it has a sugar bowl without a lid. However, a owner from the past commissioned to F&P, a London jeweller, to make a lid for the sugar bowl to match the tea and coffee pot. And the lid was manufactured in 1923, almost 100 years after the manufacture of the set. And the jeweler fulfilled the objective, manufacturing a sterling silver lid so perfect that it cannot be distinguished from the originals ones. I know it thanks to the fact that the lid has the hallmarks that prove it. So this is the only model made by Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard whose sugar bowl has a lid, a lid that match perfecty with the set, but made in London by F&P during 1923.

In the other hand, this is probably the most finely George IV carved set you can find in all internet, and, with no doubt, one of the best George IV style tea or coffee set ever made. That is why this set is not just an example of the best quality reached by Rebeca Ems & Edward Barnard, but an example of the best quality reached for a tea set during the beginning of XIX century (if you compare this set in every detail with other sets made by these artists, you will see this is the best model make by them). This set has bodies, handles, sprouts, rims and bases fully ornate with leaves, branches and flowers. All these parts are heavily decorated with an impressive, extremely precise and intricate repousse technique (you can see many textures and even veins of leaf). The overlapping of wavy leaves along with the use of various textures is surprising.

The applied flowers and leaves on lids, not using the repousse technique, are really sublime and extremely realistic. I have never seen a more exquisite floral ornamentation in the lids of a tea or coffee set, with these amazing and beautiful details. In the other hand, this set is complete, with even its original tray. Excluding this tray, all pieces has been made is solid sterling silver. Two pieces have a factory drawing of a soldier with a sword and other two pieces have a factory drawing of a lion.

Excellent condition with slight signals of use and no visible issues. Very important set for demanding collectors. Tray measures including handles are 28 1/3 inches (wide) X 18 1/10 (depth). Weight of tea pot is 861 grams. Weight of coffee pot is 995 grams.

Weight of sugar bowl is 580 grams. Weight of creamer is 327 grams. Weight of tray (not sterling silver) is 4440 grams.

Total weight is 7203 grams. Weight of set excluding tray (all sterling silver) is 2763 grams. If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your visit. This item is in the category "Antiques\Silver\Sterling Silver (.
