ENGLISH STERLING TEA SET 1851 ROBERT HENNELL - MAIDEN HEAD FEET This is a very fine, hand decorated early Victorian sterling silver maiden foot tea service. From the London shop of Robert Hennell III in 1851. Part of the renowned Hennell silver dynasty which began in 1736 with his great grandfather David, and ending in 1899. The set in squat pear shape with satin surface shell framed shield alternating with leaf and floral, themselves framed in twin vine scroll and hat shape leaf crown, atop rich satin surfaces.The hallmarked cover retains the also hallmarked leaf and flower finial, secured by the original fastener below. Stylized bird head spout with second oval shield and layered satin surface shell mount. Rolled and feathered leaf crown tapering S scroll handle with satin highlights. The set finished atop boldly cast petal and leaf framed maiden head cap scroll feet. Neither of the two shields, one to side and one to lower spout have ever been monogrammed. This 1851 British sterling bird spout teapot is 10 inches handle to spout. And the set weighs 61 standard ounces. The marks match each piece and extreme crisp and well struck.
The set appears to have been little, or even never used in 168 years. Sugar bowl and cream jug retain original gold interior. Handle secure, retains original heat stops.
