Each piece of this service has a globular form onto three volute scrolling feet. The surface of each piece is embellished with impressive rope bordered bands of profuse, finely chased Islamic inspired scrolling coriander-leaf designs all on a matte background; a style typically found in Cutch (Kutch) silver work from the second half of the nineteenth century. The upper and lower portion of each body is encircled with an impressive chased arched leaf decorated border. The teapot is fitted with a domed hinged cover is ornamented with further scrolling leaf decoration and surmounted with the original, fine and impressive cast silver finial. The teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with silver handles embellished with leaf decorated thumbpieces, in addition to further chased ornamentation to the handpiece. The teapot has an exceptional swan necked spout ornamented with a continuation of Kutch leaf style decoration. The antique sugar bowl and cream jug retain the original gilded interior.

This exceptional antique Indian silver tea set was crafted by the renowned and collectable silversmiths Oomersee Mawjee & Sons. A vast amount of silverware produced in Kutch was crafted by the pre-eminent Indian silversmith Oomersee Mawjee, who was later joined in the profession by his sons. The attention to compact scrollwork superimposed with lively animals is an identifiable mark of his imaginative work. This antique tea service is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The chased decoration is very sharp.

The Indian hallmarks to the underside of each piece are all very clear; one maker's mark has minor wear in keeping with age but remains legible. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.
